Vans with the worst MOT pass rates

Panel vans and light commercials in the same class-4 MOT as cars, ranked on 24 models with at least 20,000 recorded tests. A van that fails its MOT is a working day lost, not an inconvenience. A low score here is worth checking before you buy a second-hand van, though maintenance history matters more than the model. Data: DVSA anonymised MOT test data, 2023–2025.

What counts as a van here

Light commercial vehicles tested as class 4: Ford Transit in all its sizes, Volkswagen Transporter and Caddy, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic and Kangoo, Citroën Berlingo and Dispatch, Peugeot Partner and Expert, Fiat Ducato and Doblo, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Passenger versions of the same vans — Tourneo, Caravelle, Multivan, Viano — are ranked separately with people carriers, and campers and coachbuilts are not in either list — motorhomes have their own ranking.
